Oo! That’s A Bit Racey!
Over the last years, I’ve been on a journey towards anti-racism. I’ve reflected on my own personal experience, learnt about how the world works, made specific choices to make my corner of the world a more equitable place and comitted to educating myself on all things race, diversity and equality.
I’ve learnt that society is far from equal, and that for many individuals, their experiences are more challenging than others. Those with protected charactersitcs, as definited in the Equality Act of 2010, have it harder than most. Race is one of the nine protected characterstics, and it’s one that I hold, so it’s where my passion lies and where I feel a calling to make a difference.
I believe in equality for all people, and in striving for racial justice, I’m also developing the skills to support all individuals who are perhaps under-represented, under-valued and treated poorly by the systems in which life operates.
I’ve learnt that talking about race is extremely tricky for many people, but that without it, we can’t learn or progress. So I’m here to create a safe space for people to chat, discuss, ask questions and learn together.
I hope you enjoy reading my posts. They’re each designed to share my experience, thoughts and reflections. You’ll find book reviews, comments on topical events, and some personal therapy as I get to grips with all the things flying around my head during this challening but oh-so-worthwhile journey of mine.
Thank you for joining me, from the bottom of my heart.
